Lots of people tell me they love smoothies and I’ve heard many say that weight loss programmes like Slimfast are great because they are simple and you don’t have to worry about food.
It’s the time of year when many of us are working on our summer ‘beach body’ but let’s be honest, no matter what time of year it is, we all desire to feel full of energy and look healthy and toned.
Gone are the days that I cannoned from one commercialized weight loss plan or celebrity fad to the next. Unwanted fat loss for the older wiser me needs to be sustainable and healthy. I’m investing in my future as well as looking great now. I don’t want to lose any muscle mass and I’m only interested in losing weight the right way.
Smoothies are fab – they are simple and fun to make, but if you are going to rely on them as meal replacements to help you lose unwanted body fat, they need to pack a punch nutritionally whilst containing the minimum amount of calories.
I also want mine to be gluten, dairy, soy, added sugar and preservative free and I’d like it to contain raw ingredients so that as much of the nutrient value as possible remains in intact.

This blend tastes great and has been instrumental in me losing four stone (63lbs) of body fat four years ago and more importantly, keeping it off. This recipe contains enough nutrients for one day (though you can make more if you need it – women typically need between 40-80g of protein/day).
You can make it the evening before and keep it in the fridge or pour over ice and drink right away.
I’ve tried many products on my fat loss smoothie journey and this combination provides me maximum taste and carefully balanced nutrition. It accommodates the most common food intolerances that people suffer from and has a detoxing effect on the body.
Don’t forget to drink plenty of no calorie beverages such as good quality water and green teas. I recommend this portable water filter so that you can produce great water at home. Consuming plenty of good quality water will help flush out the toxins released from your fat stores as you go in and burn them for energy.
For those who like the science bit – you will be consuming around 6-700 calories per day on this smoothie. You burn around 2,000 calories per day. So for those who wonder if it will work think about it logically: it’s not possible not to reach and start burning your fat stores. 1lb of fat equates to 3,500 calories. So if you are consuming around 1500 calories less than you need (as is the case when you use this smoothie recipe to replace meals), you can expect to lose 1lb of fat every three days – the right way 🙂
Be patient – your body will release the weight when it’s safe to do so i.e. when it is ready to flush away the toxins too. Trust your body wisdom.
